Michael Phelps scratched the 200 fly to focus on the 200 IM today, and he looks like he could be in for a special time tonight in the medley at the 2016 Arena Pro Swim Series Austin.

Original 200 IM report:

Michael Phelps continued his strong meet with a smooth 2:01.88 to lead the way in the 200-meter IM.

Phelps has been beating all of his January career bests this week, and has a shot at another one tonight.  His best time ever in January came in 2012 at this meet with a 1:58.52.

Phelps should cut some time tonight, but the question is whether he can cut that much.

Andrew Seliskar cruised into second overall with a 2:02.47, while Josh Prenot placed third out of the morning heats with a 2:02.59.

Gator’s Dan Wallace qualified fourth in 2:02.78 with Wisconsin’s Michael Weiss snaring fifth in 2:02.83.

SwimMAC’s Ryan Lochte, who had a strong 400 IM last night, posted a sixth-seeded time in 2:03.06.

Gator’s Niki Denisyako (2:03.43) and Gator’s Eduardo Solaeche (2:03.70) picked up the rest of the top times.
