USC Wins Crosstown Showdown Behind Justina Kozan’s Double Victories
The USC women’s swimming and diving team defeated UCLA 174-126 in the Crosstown Showdown on Friday, Jan. 30.
Justina Kozan won the 200-yard butterfly to lead the Trojans with a swim of 1:55.92. She also won the 200 IM in 1:54.32, holding off UCLA’s Rosie Murphy (1:55.89).
USC’s Alisse Pisane won the 1000 freestyle in 9:46.85. Nicole Maier won the 200 freestyle in 1:44.22, going 1-2 with Claire Tuggle (1:45.29). Maier also won the 100 free in 48.62, just ahead of UCLA’s Gizem Guvenc (48.85). Tuggle won the 500 freestyle in 4:45.26.
Ashley McMillan won the 100 breaststroke for the Trojans in 59.64, edging UCLA’s Sarah Bennetts (59.86) in the closest race of the meet. McMillan also gave USC a win in the 200 breaststroke, finishing in 2:09.11 again ahead of Bennetts (2:10.23).
USC’s Kate Miller won 1-meter diving with a score of 290.40 and won 3-meter with 294.00 points.
UCLA’s Fay Lustria, Bennetts, Jada Duncan and Claudia Yovanovich won the 200 medley relay in 1:35.15, besting the Trojans by more than 3 seconds.
Yovanovich won the 100 backstroke in 52.28 and a 1-2-3 sweep with Lustria (52.43) and Murphy (52.83).
Duncan won the 50 free in 21.98 and 100 butterfly (51.91). Murphy won the 200 backstroke in 1:51.84.
Guvenc, Yovanovich, Schaffer and Duncan won the 400 free relay in 3:13.56, ahead of USC.
