Michigan Honors Ian Miskelley With Annual Be Better Meet

Michigan honored the late Ian Miskelley on Friday with the Be Better Invitational, an annual meet that promotes mental health awareness and supports the Be Better Foundation, a charitable organization established by the Miskelley family in Ian’s memory to support athletes and families dealing with mental health.

Miskelley was a Michigan high school state champion at Holland Christian High School before joining the Wolverines. He battled severe anxiety and depression. He died in 2020, taking his own life.

The Wolverines competed against Calvin, Hope and Purdue, each of which has student-athletes with connections to Miskelley and his family at the prep, club or collegiate levels. The meet is a non-scoring exhibition with several traditional events and a group of different events for fun, including an eight-round skins game until one is the winner of the event.

The meet marks the beginning of Michigan’s third season under head coach Matt Bowe. Michigan finished second at the Big Ten Championships and improved three places at the NCAA Championships to finish 11th nationally last season.
