ISL Playoffs Continue With LA Current, Toronto Titans in the Hunt For Finals Spot
The second wave of the International Swimming League (ISL) playoffs takes to the water this week with the third and fourth playoff matches.
The third match begins at 1 p.m. ET (19:00 CET) Thursday from Eindhoven, Netherlands, and will see Energy Standard, the Toronto Titans, the DC Trident and the Aqua Centurions square off in the two-day meet.
Energy Standard is the favorite in this matchup, led by Sarah Sjostrom and Siobhan Haughey. Meanwhile, the Toronto Titans will look to keep pace without Blake Pieroni, who has pulled out of the rest of the season with an injury. The Titans, led by Kylie Masse, had a fast start to the season and are looking to claim the fourth spot in the finals, along with Energy Standard, the Cali Condors and the London Roar. Of course, the LA Current are surging at the right time, too, and one of the teams will be left out of the final.
That is what makes the ISL playoff rounds so important, especially for those two teams battling for that last spot.
The fourth playoff match begins Saturday from Eindhoven and will feature the Cali Condors, the London Roar, the LA Current and Team Iron.
The Condors won the playoff opener even without Caeleb Dressel or Hali Flickinger, a strong sign for Cali as it continues its ISL title defense.
The Current had a huge playoff performance in the second match, led by Tom Shields and Anastasia Gorbenko, and are poised for a run at the title.
