Ian Finnerty Featured In Sports Illustrated’s “Faces in the Crowd”
In the latest Sports Illustrated issue, Indiana junior Ian Finnerty was featured in the “Faces in the Crowd” section. Finnerty is coming off a marvelous NCAA championships where he became the first swimmer to break 50 seconds in the 100 breast in short course yards, and also doubled up with a win in the 200 breast.
Finnerty also swam the breaststroke leg on Indiana’s 4×100 medley relay team that won the Hoosier’s first relay win at NCAA’s since they won the same relay in 1977.
The “Faces in the Crowd” feature has been designed to highlight the best amateur athletes in the United States, and has been a feature of the magazine since 1956. Notable swimmers who have made the list in recent years have been former Arizona star Kevin Cordes in January 2014, and current Stanford sophomore Grant Shoults in June 2016.
Finnerty will be expected at the TYR Pro Swim Series at Indianapolis next week where he will look to put up some solid long course times after coming off a great short course season. Finnerty has yet to make an international team for the United States, and has a chance to make either the Pan Pacific Championships this summer or the Pan American Games or World University Games next summer.

Last month NCAA Swimmer of the Meet Marius Kusch was in Sports Illustrated as well. His performances would be under your definition of notable! Just a reminder Marius swims at Queens University of Charlotte and on the German National Team!
