The 2022 Big Ten Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship kicked continued on Thursday in Madison, Wisconsin.
The first prelims session of the meet began with the 500 freestyle, then the 200 IM and 50 freestyle before 1-meter diving.
Ohio State entered the day with the lead after winning both relays on Wednesday night.
Big Ten Women’s 500 Freestyle
Wisconsin freshman Paige McKenna took the top seed in the 500 freestyle, touching the wall in 4:40.31, just ahead of Northwestern sophomore Lola Mull, who finished in 4:40.80.
Michigan sophomore Kathryn Ackerman was not far off the pace, finishing in 4:41.88 to take the third seed, followed by Indiana freshman Ching Hwee Gan (4:42.96).
Ohio State landed one in the top eight as Maya Geringer took the fifth seed (4:43.09), followed by Indiana freshman Mariah Denigan (4:43.16), Wisconsin freshman Abby Carlson (4:44.55) and Indiana sophomore Ella Ristic (4:44.72).
Half of the finalists are freshman and the other half are sophomores with no upperclassman making the final.

Big Ten Women’s 200 IM
Minnesota sophomore Megan Van Berkom dropped more than a half second from her seed time to take the top spot in the 200 IM. She touched the wall in 1:55.87 by building a lead and having enough in the tank for a 27 final split, second fastest in the top eight.
Ohio State fifth-year Kristen Romano took the second seed in 1:55.93, followed by Indiana senior Noelle Peplowski (1:55.96).
Michigan senior Olivia Carter wasn’t far behind at 1:56.07 thanks to her 27.38 final split, which was the fastest final split among the top eight.
Wisconsin sophomore Phoebe Bacon took the fifth seed (1:56.41) followed by Indiana senior Mackenzie Looze (1:56.72), Wisconsin’s Jenna Silvestri (1:57.04) and Michigan senior Victoria Kwan (1:57.30).

Michigan senior Maggie Mac Neil was close to her seed time in the 50 freestyle, taking the top seed in 21.60.
She was two tenths of a second ahead of Northwestern sophomore Jasmine Nocentini, who touched in 21.80.
Ohio State junior Amy Fulmer also was under 22, touching the wall in 21.89.
Michigan freshman Lindsay Flynn and Ohio State sophomore Katherine Zenick tied for the fourth seed in 22.05, followed by Wisconsin senior Lillie Hosack (22.15), Michigan sophomore Claire Newman (22.17) and Northwestern senior Madeline Smith (22.23).
