Men’s 200 Medley Relay
The Indiana Hoosiers started off the Big Ten men’s swimming and diving championships in their home pool with a 1:23.07 in the 200 medley relay, which is the quickest time in the nation at the time being.
Gabriel Fantoni (21.17), Zane Backes (23.08), Brendan Burns (20.20) and Bruno Blaskovic (18.62) broke the pool record that Michigan set in 2013 as the Wolverines finished in second place and Purdue was third.
Michigan was the top seed coming into the meet and also set the Big Ten meet record in 2019. Their team of Eric Storms (21.66), William Chan (23.46), Miles Smachlo (20.22) and Gus Borges (18.82) finished in second at 1:24.16 while the Purdue Boilermakers were third (1:24.44). This was Purdue’s highest relay finish since they were second in the 200 free relay in 2009.
The quickest splits outside the top two came from Purdue’s Michael Juengel (21.66), Minnesota’s Max McHugh (22.99), Wisconsin’s Jian Mao (20.27) and Ohio State’s Semuede Andreis (18.48).
