2016 Arena Pro Swim Series Set To Open In Austin

USA Swimming opens up 2016 competition with the Arena Pro Swim Series at Austin. The meet will take place from Jan. 15-Jan. 17 at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center, the home of the Texas Longhorns.

Many of America’s top swimmers are expected to compete at the meet, including 22-time Olympic medalist Michael Phelps of North Baltimore Aquatic Club. Katie Ledecky, Ryan Lochte and Missy Franklin are also expected to swim.

More than 600 swimmers will compete in Austin. The field features around 70 members of the U.S. National Team. This will be the first time many of the swimmers compete in the Olympic year.

The second and third days of the meet will be aired on NBC Universal, though there will be a time delay. The entire meet can be streamed live on usaswimming.org.

A number of University of Texas graduates are expected to compete at the meet, including Jimmy Feigan, Laura Sogar and Michael McBroom. Many current Longhorns will also swim.

Olympic medalists Nathan Adrian, Tyler Clary, Natalie Coughlin, Anthony Ervin, Allison Schmitt and Dana Vollmer are also expected to compete in Austin.

Prize money will be given to the top three finishers in each Olympic event. The winner of every race will receive $1000, the second place finisher gets $600 and third place swimmer takes home $200.
