Olympic Trials Semifinalist Berit Berglund Verbally Commits to Texas for 2023

NEW COMMIT: The University of Texas has officially entered the Class of 2027 recruiting game, recently snagging a verbal pledge for 2023 from Olympic Trials semi-finalist Berit Berglund of Carmel, Indiana.

Berglund was recently named to the USA Swimming National Junior Team.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Texas! A huge thank you to my family, friends, and coaches who have supported me throughout this process and my entire swimming career! HOOK ‘EM HORNS????? #hookem”

A talented backstroker and freestyler, Berglund does her club swimming with Chris Plumb at Carmel Swim Club. She finished 16th in the 100m back at Wave II of Olympic Trials after clocking in a personal best of 1:00.96 during prelims.

Back in March, she won the 100 back at Indianapolis Sectionals. She also finished 11th in that event at Juniors East in 2019.

Her best times include:

50 back – 24.54
100 back – 52.09
200 back – 1:57.98
50 free – 23.87
100 free – 50.15
200 free – 1:48.72

Currently a junior at Carmel High School, Berglund is already a four-time individual Indiana State Championship finalist. She won the 100 back and placed fourth in the 100 free as a sophomore while taking first in the 100 back and fourth in the 200 free during her freshman season.

In 2021, she also swam on Carmel’s winning 4×50 medley and 4×100 free relay en route to helping her team clinch their 35th straight team title.

Berglund, the top 100 backstroker as of right now in her class, will make a big impact at the NCAA level as her best time would’ve scored at the national meet in 2021. She would’ve been the Longhorns’ third-fastest 100 backstroker last season.

Under head coach Carol Capitani, the Longhorns won their 10th-straight Big 12 team title in 2021.

The Longhorns are bringing in an impressive Class of 2026 that includes Emily Carpenter, Sienna Schellenger, Meghan DiMartile, Lydia Jacoby, Chase Davison and Lindsey Hosch
