North Carolina 3A State Champion Peter Bretzmann Verbally Commits to Florida for 2021

NEW COMMIT: The University of Florida has received a new verbal commitment for the 2021-22 season and beyond from Peter Bertzmann of Chapel Hill, N.C.

He will join Macguire McDuffAryan Nehra, David FitchJoaquin Gonzalez PineroMason Laur and Oskar Lindholm in Gainesville as a member of the Gators’ class of 2025.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I’m very proud and grateful to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Florida! I’d like to thank my family, friends, and coaches for supporting me along my journey! Go Gators!!”

An extremely versatile swimmer, Bertzmann does his club swimming with North Carolina Aquatic Club and owns numerous Junior National standards. He most recently placed fifth in the 1000 free and eighth in the 400m IM at Cary Futures after earning a best time in the mile at Juniors East in December. Last summer, he raced to fourth in the 400m IM at North Carolina Seniors before going on to achieve a pair of lifetime bests at Junior Nationals.

His best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:42.68
  • 500 free – 4:29.83
  • 1000 free – 9:17.04
  • 1650 free – 15:56.03
  • 100 breast – 58.26
  • 200 breast – 2:03.39
  • 200 IM – 1:52.64
  • 400 IM – 3:56.60

A rising senior at Chapel Hill Senior High School, Bertzmann is a five-time North Carolina 3A State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American earned silver in the 500 free and bronze in the 200 IM as a junior while taking first and second, respectively, in those events during his sophomore season.

Florida is coming off their eighth-straight and 41st overall SEC Championship title in 2020.
