NEW COMMIT: The University of Florida has scored a new in-state verbal commitment for the 2021-22 season and beyond from Olympic Trials qualifier Mason Laur of Naples, Fla.

He’ll join Oskar Lindholm in Gainesville as a member of the Gators’ class of 2025.

Primarily a butterflyer and IMer, Laur swims year-round with T2 Aquatics and recently placed 10th in the 200 fly at Juniors East last month. He won the 200m fly at Junior Nationals with a time of 1:59.25 this past summer to achieve the 2020 Olympic Trials cut and had five top-5 finishes at the Florida Spring Championships last March.

A current junior at Barron Collier High School, Laur is a six-time Florida 3A State Championship finalist. He won the 200 IM and was the 100 fly runner-up in 2019 after placing third and fourth in 2018 as well as 13th and 11th, respectively, in those events as a freshman. He has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors twice thus far in his career.

He told Swimming World:

“I am extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my swimming and academic career at the University of Florida! I’d like to thank my family, friends, and coaches for all of their support! GO GATORS!”

His best times include:

  • 200 IM – 1:48.17
  • 400 IM – 3:54.48
  • 100 fly – 49.41
  • 200 fly – 1:47.40
  • 200 back – 1:47.45

When he arrives on campus in the fall of 2021, Laur will add his talents to a loaded training group that’ll include Eric FrieseKieran Smith, Miguel Cancel, and Dillon Hillis. Although he’s not in scoring range just yet at the SEC Championships, he has made significant improvements each season with 1.5 years of club swimming still to go.
