Miranda Grana’s 200 Fly School Record Leads Indiana to Sweep of Cincinnati
Miranda Grana went 1:53.25 to set the Indiana program record in the women’s 200 butterfly in a dual-meet sweep of Cincinnati Friday.
Grana’s time won by nearly eight seconds. More importantly, she downed the program record of 1:53.67 set at the 2017 Big Ten Championships by Gia Dalesandro.
Despite being shorthanded for the U.S. Open, the Indiana women claimed a 157-124 win over the Bearcats. The Indiana men claimed a 162-112 victory.
Grana also dominated in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:00.24. Grana’s time of 49.82 was exhibitioned but the second-quickest in the 100 free.
Kristina Paegle swept the sprints, going 21.88 in the 50 and 48.07 in the 100. Paegle matched that exact 50 time off the front of the winning 200 free relay. Mya DeWitt did the backstroke double, clocking in at 51.65 in the 100 and 1:54.63 in the 200. Grace Hoeper won the 200 free and 100 fly.
Indiana won the distance events via Luci Gutierrez in the 1,000 free and Reese Tiltmann in the 500. The Hoosiers swept diving, with Ella Roselli scoring 317.10 to win 1-meter and 364.95 on 3-meter.
DeWitt, 200 breast champ Jonette Lagreid, Grana and Hoepner won the 200 medley relay. Paegle, Amelia Bray, Alessandra Gusperti and Sze Yeo claimed the 200 free relay.
Indiana’s men’s team found competition within their ranks. In the 100 free, Raekwon Noel won in 42.86, ahead of Vidar Carlbaum’s 43.00. Noel earlier won the 200 free in 1:35.33, and Carlbaum went 19.45 to win the 50. Noel would add the 200 I in 1:46.25, ahead of 200 fly winner Josh Bey.
In the 100 breast, Dylan Smiley’s 52.63 outtouched teammate Toby Barnett, who won the 200 breast. Smiley added a win in the 100 fly in 47.62, .36 ahead of Max Lestina. David Kovacs swept the backstroke events. Luke Ellis (8:56.41) and Andrew Shackell (4:22.34) reigned in distance.
Max Weinrich tallied 425.55 to win 3-meter, with three teammates in the 390s. Second on 3-meter was Joshua Sollenberger, whose score of 391.28 edged Weinrich by three points on 1-meter.
Cincinnati’s only win came on the women’s side, where Lindi Worrell’s time of 1:00.67 was quickest in the 100 breast.
