This week’s Performance of the Week, sponsored by LumaLanes, goes to Emily Weiss for her national high school record in the 100 breast in the finals of the Indiana High School girls’ swimming and diving championships.

The Yorktown High School junior first lowered the Indiana state record in prelims, swimming a 59.25 to break her own state record of 59.68. She then dropped almost another full second off of that in finals, cruising past the rest of the field to hit the wall in a new national high school record of 58.40. That was a tenth under the former record (58.56) set by Lindsey Horejsi back in 2015.

That makes Weiss the fastest high school breaststroker in history as only a junior, giving her a whole year to work to take her record even lower. Weiss has already given her verbal commitment to swim for Indiana University starting in the fall of 2019, the home of Olympic gold medalist and current junior Lilly King. Weiss actually broke King’s state record in the 100 breast during her sophomore year and will be joining the Hoosiers the fall after King graduates. Weiss also has international experience as part of the most recent World Junior Team, and over the next two years has her eyes on making the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Congratulations Emily Weiss on earning Swimming World’s Performance of the Week!

Special Thanks to LumaLanes for sponsoring Swimming World’s Performance of the Week.
