Ledecky Tops 1500 Free in Santa Clara with Fifth Fastest Swim of All Time

Women’s 1500 Freestyle
Katie Ledecky easily dominated the women’s 1500 freestyle in the first session in Santa Clara. Her time of 15:35.65, the fifth fastest of all time, is the fastest time in the world this year by nearly 30 seconds.
Ledecky finished almost 40 seconds ahead of the next closest competitor, Chile’s Kristel Kobrich. Kobrich’s time of 16:12.89 is the fifth fastest time in the world this year.
Island Swim Club’s Mackenzie Padington finished third in 16:31.33. Ledecky’s Stanford teammates Leah Stevens and Megan Byrnes swam a close race, finishing fourth and fifth in 16:36.13 and 16:36.31, respectively.
Chenoa Devine of the Davis Aquadarts placed sixth in 16:38.30, while Mexico’s Ayumi Macias Alba was seventh in 16:51.14.
Georgia’s Meg Finnon rounded out the top eight in 17:13.11.
