Scratches were plentiful after the morning session — in fact, the 54th-ranked swimmer from the women’s 200 IM prelims ended up as one of the 36 coming back for finals — but four of the eight A-finals were unscathed.
In the 200 fly, both the women’s and men’s top seeds pulled out. Kelsi Worrell is done for the meet, leaving Katie McLaughlin as the top-ranked swimmer in the women’s event, and Chase Kalisz is now the top seed for the men’s 200 fly final after Tom Shields pulled out to head home to Berkeley.
Marina Garcia and Kevin Cordes remain the top seeds in their respective 100 breast races, while Kylie Masse and Grigory Tarasevich are first in the 100 back. None of those championship finals were affected by scratches.
In the women’s 200 IM, Madisyn Cox will go for her third victory of the meet. Mackenzie Padington and Allie Szekely scratched that final, making way for Kelly Fertel and Danielle Hanus to move into the championship heat.
Michael Andrew has the top seed in the men’s 200 IM, while Abrahm Devine and Matthew Josa withdrew from the event, allowing Michael Weiss and Gunnar Bentz to move up.
Finally, the meet will conclude with the women’s 800 free and men’s 1500 free. Cierra Runge has lane five for the women’s race, while Kohei Kawamoto is the only man seeded under 15:00 in the mile, with True Sweetser entered as the top American.
