Women’s 800 Free Relay

NCAA Record: 7:18.15 – Thompson, Todhunter, Geller, Wilson (Williams – 2012)
2016 Champion: 7:18.50 – Thompson, Cheng, Bergh, Wawer (Emory)

It was a sweet moment for Emory and a bitter-sweet moment for Kenyon, as both teams finished beneath the existing NCAA record of 7:18.15.

The two teams held a tight battle throughout the entirety of the race, but a strong anchor leg from Emory’s Cindy Cheng propelled Emory to a narrow victory and a new national record. Teammates Fiona Muir (1:47.84), Julia Wawer (1:50.15), Marissa Bergh (1:50.04), and Cheng (1:46.95) stopped the clock at a sizzling 7:14.98 to erase the 2012 record set by Williams.

Kenyon’s Julia Green (1:50.30), Delaney Ambrosen (1:49.45), Hannah Orbach-Mandel (1:47.79), and Abby Wilson (1:47.54) turned in a second place finish of 7:15.08 for the silver.

Nicole Zanolli (1:49.09), Niamh O’Grady (1:50.96), Cara Lopiano (1:51.40), and Hannah Eastman (1:50.47) of Wash U in St. Louis completed the top three with a final time of 7:21.92.

Chicago finished fourth with a 7:22.15, followed by Williams’ 7:22.47.

Calvin (7:28.72), MIT (7:29.95), and NYU (7:30.28) completed the top eight.
