Men’s 800 Free Relay
Irvine Novaquatics just held off the Mason Manta Rays at the finish of the men’s 800 free relay as Irvine won with a 7:31.63 ahead of Mason’s 7:32.40. Hunter Hitchens (1:54.13), Owen Kao (1:51.54), Andrew Koustik (1:52.03) and Sean Slusiewicz (1:53.93) swam for Irvine as they held off a very strong anchor leg from 15-year-old Carson Foster (1:49.99). Foster had the only split under 1:50 and was one of the few swimmers who split faster than 1:53.
Mason finished second with Jake Foster (1:53.83), Adam Chaney (1:55.49), Gordon Wheeler (1:53.09) and C. Foster (1:49.99) as Foster’s late charge was not enough for Mason’s second relay win of the meet after they won the 400 on Wednesday night. Terrapins Swim Team finished third with a 7:35.55 with Alexei Sancov (1:49.11), Nathan Barsanti (1:53.70), Will Nagle (1:56.04) and Andrew Rodriguez (1:56.70). Sancov’s time was a little off the meet record of 1:48.64 held by Caeleb Dressel from 2013.
C. Foster, Kao, Koustik and Shaine Casas (1:52.40) had the fastest splits in the top eight teams.
SwimMAC Carolina (7:37.14), Scarlet Aquatics (7:37.18), Nitro Swimming (7:38.35), Pleasanton Seahawks (7:38.68) and New Trier Swim Club (7:39.55) also placed in the top eight.
