South Carolina-native Talmadge “Tal” Davis will not have to travel very far for college. Davis has verbally committed to spend the next four years just a few hours’ drive down I-85 in Athens as a member of Jack Bauerle’s Georgia Bulldogs.

“I am proud to announce my commitment to the University of Georgia. It is a top notch academic institution with great tradition producing top swimmers. I look forward to pursuing my academic and athletic goals with my new teammates at UGA. Go Dawgs!!!”

Davis, who attends Palmetto High School and competes for Team Greenville, most recently competed at South Carolina’s 3A High School state championships, where he dominated both the 200 IM (1:54.09) and 500 free (4:38.64). Short course, his best times have come in distance freestyle (4:21.24 in the 500 free and 9:06.78 in the 1000 free), the 200 back (1:48.89), 200 fly (1:47.87) and 400 IM (3:56.46).

While it remains to be seen which events he will focus in on in college, he figures to have a shot at scoring in all three of his SEC events as a freshman, especially if his short course times in the 200 back and 400 IM catch up to his impressive long course swims from this summer.

Davis had a breakout summer when he finished fourth in both the 200 back and 400 IM at Junior Nationals and was also among the top ten finishers in the 400 and 800 free. His four Olympic Trial cuts included the 200 back (2:01.97), 400 IM (4:24.43), 400 free (3:57.27) and 200 free (1:51.88).
