The Stanford men’s team scored its first verbal commitment for the class of 2018 as Jack LeVant announced his verbal pact to swim for the Cardinal.

LeVant shared on his Instagram account how swimming for Stanford had long been a dream for him.

“When I was 9 years old, my coach gave me this cap for breaking a minute in the 100-yard freestyle, and I hung it up on my bedroom wall. And now, 8 years later, I am honored to announce that I have verbally committed to swim and study at Stanford University.”

LeVant attends Carroll Senior High School in Southlake, Texas, and he swims for the North Texas Nadadores. In his only event at Olympic Trials, he finished 51st in the men’s 200 fly in 2:02.26.

But he has some versatility, particularly in short course. His best times include a 1:45.20 in the 200 fly, 1:45.06 in the 200 back, 4:18.20 in the 500 free and 1:35.42 in the 200 free. This year. he’s gotten his 200 fly down to 1:59.56, so he likely would not need to drop much more to be in contention for an A-final spot at the upcoming U.S. Nationals.
