Women’s Big Ten 200 Backstroke

Wisconsin sophomore Phoebe Bacon took a first step toward sweeping both Big Ten backstroke titles with her performance in the 200 backstroke.

While her time of 1:51.71 was more than a second off of her best time of the season, it was enough to take the top seed by more than a second.

Indiana freshman Anna Peplowski took the second seed in 1:53.04, holding off Wisconsin senior Mara Newman (1:53.85).

Northwestern junior Emma Lepisova took the fourth spot in 1:53.98, followed by Ohio State sophomore Tristan Harrison (1:54.13), Michigan sophomore Casey Chung (1:54.62), Penn State senior Maria Schobel (1:54.83) and Ohio State freshman Paige Hall (1:55.06).

Big Ten Women 100 Freestyle

Ohio State junior Amy Fulmer looked to continue her strong meet and set up an intruiging showdown in the 100 freestyle.

Fulmer took the top seed in 47.64, just ahead of Michigan’s Maggie Mac Neil, who finished in 47.86. MacNeil has been as fast as 47.15 this season and likely has more in the tank. If Fulmer has more in the tank, too, it should be an exciting race.

Northwestern senior Madeline Smith took the third seed in 48.07, followed by Ohio State sophomore Katherine Zenick (48.11), Michigan freshman Lindsay Flynn (48.15), Minnesota freshman Hannah Cornish (48.21), Northwestern sophomore Jasmine Nocentini (48.23) and Wisconsin freshman Sophie Fiske (48.40).

Big Ten Women 200 Butterfly

Michigan’s Olivia Carter gave the Wolverines a much needed boost in the 200 butterfly. Carter, the defending NCAA champion in the event, claimed the top seed in 1:53.82, a second and a half ahead of the field.

Michigan’s Victoria Kwan also took the fourth seed in 1:55.84, which could be big for the Wolverines, as every point is big as they chase Ohio State.

Minnesota sophomore Megan Van Berkom took the second seed in 1:55.31, followed by Northwestern senior Miriam Guevara (1:55.67).

Ohio State landed two in the finals as well as fifth-years Kristen Romano (1:55.90) and Katie Trace (1:55.94), claimed the fifth and sixth seeds, respectively.

Wisconsin took the last two finals spots with freshman Mackenzie McConagha (1:56.22) and junior Mallory Jump (1:57.09).
