3 Top Takeaways From The ACC This Weekend
By Chandler Brandes, ACC Beat Writer
Despite the winter storm postponing three ACC meets and cancelling one, three teams-Louisville, Boston College, and Georgia Tech-were still able to compete this weekend, posting strong performances in the pool and on the boards.
3 Top Takeaways:
1. Louisville Prevails in Battle of the Bluegrass
The Cardinals hosted instate rival Kentucky on Saturday, in which both the Louisville men and women defeated the Wildcats. Trevor Carroll was a triple winner for the Cards, taking first in the 50, 200, and 500 freestyles. The Cardinals took the top three spots in the men’s 200 back, 100 fly, and 200 IM, as well as in the women’s 200 back. They have one more dual meet next weekend as they prepare for ACCs.
2. Record Setting Weekend for Boston College
The Eagles set four meet records and three pool records at the Dartmouth Invite on Friday and Saturday. Dan Kelly, Conor Chamness, David Hunter, and Colin Derdeyn set a new meet record in the men’s 200 free relay, and the 200 medley relay team of Josh Williams, Billy Miller, David Howard, and Kelly broke the pool and meet record. Kelly also broke the pool and meet records in both the 50 free (20.26) and 100 free (45.15).
3. Shannon Lumbra Shines for Georgia Tech
Diver Shannon Lumbra was the only double event winner for the Yellow Jackets in their dual against Alabama on Saturday. The senior swept both diving events, placing first in the 1m (290.90) and the 3m (293.60). She will look to continue her success leading into ACCs and NCAAs.
