NEW COMMIT: The Duke Blue Devils have added a verbal commitment from Cabell Ann Whitlow, a versatile swimmer from Virginia Gators. She’s a senior at Patrick Henry High School. Whitlow will be in familiar company in the ACC as Gator teammate Emma Muzzy verbally committed to NC State this summer.

At the 2017 Virginia High School 5A state championship meet the Patrick Henry women took home the state title. Led by Whitlow’s lifetime best, 25.88 backstroke split, the women opened the meet in a 5A 200 medley relay record of 1:43.62. At the meet’s midpoint the team also broke the state record in the 200 freestyle relay. Individually Whitlow was third in the 200 IM (2:03.65) and sixth in the 100 fly (56.90).

Whitlow’s best times include:

  • 200 Back 1:59.77
  • 100 Back 56.02
  • 50 Back 25.88
  • 200 Fly 1:59.42
  • 100 Fly 55.85
  • 200 IM 2:03.30
  • 400 IM 4:21.34

At ACCs she would have been a 200 fly C finalist in 2017. Duke freshman Kylie Jordan was a C finalist there and will overlap with Whitlow for two years. Whitlow is just outside ACC scoring range in the 200 back (took a 1:59.00 last year). Mickayla Hinkle and Madeline Hess both earned second swims last season. The two will be seniors when Whitlow gets to Durham next fall.

Brynne O’SheaShae NicolaisenMelissa PishRachel Peroni, and Easop Lee have also verbally committed to the Blue Devil women’s Class of 2022.
