Stanford Secures Verbal From U.S. National Junior Teamer and Junior National Champion Lucy Bell

NEW COMMIT: Stanford University continues their recruiting frenzy, picking up their sixth verbal commitment in just a few days from Olympic Trials qualifier and USA Junior National Team member Lucy Bell of Fort Collins, Colo., one of the top recruits in her year.

She will join Natalie MannionSophie DuncanGigi JohnsonKristi McEnroe and Kayla Wilson in Stanford’s freshman class for the fall of 2022.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I’m beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Stanford University. I want to thank my family, friends, and coaches for helping me achieve this lifelong dream. I can’t wait to join such an amazing team! ❤️?”

Bell, who trains with Fort Collins Area Swim Team, most recently raced four events at Wave II of Olympic Trials in Omaha last month. Primarily a butterflyer and IMer, she flew to 17th in the 100m fly at the Toyota U.S. Open in November and won the 100 fly at Juniors West in 2019.

In Summer 2019, she finaled in three events at Phillips 66 Nationals before going on to earn gold in the 100m fly and silver in the 200m fly at the Junior National Championships.

Her best times include:

  • 100 fly – 52.17
  • 200 fly – 1:54.93
  • 200 IM – 1:57.74
  • 400 IM – 4:12.42
  • 50 free – 22.99
  • 100 free – 49.17
  • 200 free – 1:49.33
  • 100 breast – 1:01.45
  • 200 breast – 2:14.68

A rising senior at Fossil Ridge High School, Bell is a six-time Colorado 5A State Championship finalist, most recently winning the 100 fly and 100 free this past season. The two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American also won the 100 free and 200 IM as a sophomore while taking second and first, respectively, in those events during her rookie campaign.

Bell’s top topes would’ve scored in the A-final of the 100 fly, 200 fly, 200 IM, and 400 IM at the 2021 Pac-12 Championships. She is also already fast enough to place in the B-final of the 200 fly at the NCAA Championship level.

Stanford’s incoming class this fall includes Aurora RoghairAmy TangAnna ShawSamantha TadderTorri Huske and Meghan Lynch, as well as diver Lauren Burch.
