NEW COMMIT: The University of South Carolina has scored a new verbal commitment for the fall of 2023 from Ellery Ottem of River Falls, Wisconsin.

She will join Madelyn Yates and Jill Smiley as a member of the Gamecocks’ Class of 2027.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“i’m extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the university of south carolina! i am beyond thankful for my coaches, friends, and family who have supported me through this journey. i can’t wait to be apart of this family. GO COCKS!”

A talented freestyler and butterflyer, Ottem does her club swimming with Mako Aquatics and most recently won four events at Minnesota LCM Seniors after earning silver in the 200m free at Minneapolis Sectionals. She finaled in six events at NCSAs back in March, placing as high as sixth in the 200 free in a new lifetime best.

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 23.46
  • 100 free – 50.14
  • 200 free – 1:47.05
  • 500 free – 4:54.83
  • 100 fly – 55.45
  • 200 fly – 2:02.23

A rising senior at River Falls High School, Ottem placed fourth in both the 100 and 200 free at the 2021 Wisconsin DI State Championships.

Ottem is a huge pickup for the Gamecocks, as she would’ve been their third fastest 100 freestyler last year and ranked fourth in the 200 free, already making her a relay contender. She even would’ve placed in the C-final of the 200 free at the 2022 SEC Championships.
