NEW COMMIT: The University of South Carolina has received a new in-state verbal commitment for the fall of 2022 from Junior National qualifier Jill Smiley of Charleston, South Carolina.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“… I am humbled yet incredibly proud to announce my verbal commitment to the University of South Carolina! Mega shoutout to my best friends—my teammates—who have trained alongside me for the past 10 years, every coach who’s helped push me in the right direction, my overly supportive parents, God, and everyone else who has played a part in getting me to this point in my career. I quite literally could not be more excited to compete in the SEC (the best conference??). Sooo, SPURS UP!???? #$wag”

A talented butterflyer, Smiley trains year-round with South Carolina Swim Club and raced three events at Juniors East back in December. Last summer, she was the runner-up in both the 100m and 200m fly at South Carolina Seniors, also placing third in the 100m free and 200m IM.

Her best times include:

  • 200 fly – 2:01.06
  • 100 fly – 55.43
  • 100 back – 58.11
  • 200 IM – 2:07.70
  • 400 IM – 4:35.92
  • 50 free – 24.66
  • 100 free – 53.26
  • 200 free – 1:54.77
