South Carolina Adds Madelyn Yates of Baylor Swim Club to Class of 2027

NEW COMMIT: The University of South Carolina has received a new verbal commitment for the 2023-24 season and beyond from Madelyn Yates of Huntsville, Alabama.

She will join Jill Smiley as a member of the Gamecocks’ Class of 2027.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of South Carolina! I can’t wait to be a part of such an amazing program and school. I’m so grateful for all my coaches, friends, and family for all their continued support throughout this journey and I’m so excited for the next few years!! GO COCKS❤️???

Yates trains year-round with Baylor Swim Club and most recently earned two best times at the Mizuno Atlanta Classic in May. She was the runner-up in the 50 back at the Southeastern Swimming Championships in February before going on to place 20th in the 50 fly at NCSAs in March.

Her best times include:

  • 50 back – 26.16
  • 100 back – 56.65
  • 50 fly – 25.13
  • 100 fly – 55.26
  • 200 fly – 2:04.64
  • 50 free – 23.92
  • 100 free – 51.43
  • 200 free – 1:51.54

A rising senior at Baylor School, Yates placed fifth in the 100 fly and sixth in the 100 back at the 2022 TISCA Championships. As a sophomore at Huntsville High School, she raced to fourth and fifth, respectively, in those events at the 2021 Alabama State Championships.
