SEC Weekly Awards: Jillian Cox, Hubert Kos Lead Honorees

The SEC announced its weekly swimming and diving awards. Here is a look at the honorees:

SEC Men’s Swimmer of the Week: Hubert Kós, Texas

Texas’ Hubert Kós, a senior from Telki, Hungary, earned multiple podium finishes during the Eddie Reese Texas Showdown against No. 9 Louisville and No. 10 Ohio State. Individually, Kós finished first in the 200 back with an NCAA qualifying time of 1:38.14 and the 200 IM with a time of 1:40.69. He was also runner-up in the 50 back (20.98), 100 back (44.48) and the 100 IM (47.11). Additionally, Kós swam the third leg of the winning 200 medley relay (1:22.01/19.79) and the winning 400 medley relay (3:03.03).

SEC Men’s Diver of the Week: Nick Harris, Texas

Texas’ Nick Harris, a senior from Chester Springs, Pa., won both springboard events at the Eddie Reese Texas Showdown against No. 9 Louisville and No. 10 Ohio State. Harris claimed the top spot on the 1-meter with a final score of 359.33 and on the 3-meter with a final score of 403.25.

SEC Men’s Co-Freshmen of the Week: Sean Green, Georgia and Aiden Hammer, Texas

Georgia’s Sean Green, a freshman from Rockaway Beach, N.Y., swept the distance events as he helped his squad earn the win over No. 11 Tennessee. Green touched first in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 8:56.94, his second-fastest time of the season. He later won the 500 freestyle with an NCAA cut of 4:16.69, also the second-fastest time of his season.

Texas’ Aiden Hammer, a freshman from Fox Island, Wash., registered two NCAA qualifying times during the Eddie Reese Texas Showdown against No. 9 Louisville and No. 10 Ohio State. Hammer took first place in the 1650 free with a time of 14:49.19, the 10th best time in the nation this season. He also placed first in the B Final of the 500 free with a time of 4:16.01, good for ninth place overall.

SEC Women’s Swimmer of the Week: Jillian Cox, Texas

Texas’ Jillian Cox, a sophomore from Cedar Park, Texas, won two individual events at the Eddie Reese Texas Showdown against No. 6 Louisville and No. 12 Ohio State. Cox touched the wall first in the 500 free with an NCAA qualifying time of 4:34.28 and the 1650 free with an NCAA qualifying time of 15:44.61.

SEC Women’s Diver of the Week: Sophie Verzyl, South Carolina

South Carolina’s Sophie Verzyl, a senior from Columbia, S.C., swept the springboard events in the win at Georgia Tech. Verzyl took first place on the 1-meter with a final score of 320.33 and on the 3-meter with a final score of 378.38.

SEC Women’s Freshman of the Week: Tessa Giele, Alabama

Alabama’s Tessa Giele, a freshman from Rotterdam, Netherlands, earned four podium finishes in the win at No. 24 Texas A&M. Giele recorded a pair of NCAA qualifying times to win the 50 free (21.91) and the 100 fly (51.16). She also swam the third leg of the winning 400 free relay (3:14.41/48.37) and the third-place 200 medley relay (1:38.29/22.68).
