Katie Ledecky opened the press conferences at the media day at the US Olympic training camp in San Antonio this weekend.
Ledecky talked about the progression of the US distance swimming and the growing crowds during distance events at meets. She also talked about Leah Smith‘s success at Trials.
The 19 year old had positive things to say about the addition of rookies to the team. She believes the spark they add is part of what has kept it exciting for her second Games experience. When asked to compare the team to the 2012 group, Ledecky commented that it is “better than ever.”
She reported that San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich’s message to the US Olympic Team was to “enjoy representing the U.S.”
