Penn State Men, Ohio State Women Lead Big Ten Weekly Honors

Penn State and Ohio State placed two swimmers each in the Big Ten Weekly Honors, released on Wednesday.

On the women’s side, the Buckeyes’ Katherine Zenick is the women’s swimmer of the week, with diver Lena Hentschel earning the top diver honor. Penn State grabbed the men’s swimmer of the week nod (Eduardo Cisternas) and freshman of the week (Cooper Morley). Indiana’s Carson Tyler was the top male diver, while Purdue freshman Daryn Wright took home the women’s honor.

Zenick won the 100 butterfly in 53.36 seconds in the Buckeyes’ win over Michigan. The junior from Southlake, Texas, also placed third in the 50 freestyle and swam on winning 200 medley and 400 free relays.

Hentschel, a freshman from Germany, on both diving events against Michigan. She topped the 3-meter competition with a score of 353.48 while scoring 302.40 on 3-meter for the win.

Wright won platform diving in a meet against Indiana. She scored 298.60 points, the third-best score in the conference this season. She also finished second on 1-meter with a score of 302.50.

Cisternas, a native of Chile, makes it four freshman recognized this week. He set Penn State pool records in the 500 and 1,000 free in a meet with Virginia Tech. His time in the 1,000, 8:56.63, is second in the conference and seventh in the nation this season. He went 4:18.50 in the 500, sixth in the Big Ten.

Tyler topped platform diving against Purdue for his third career nod in the Big Ten Weekly Honors and first of the season. The sophomore scored 423.80 on platform, the nation’s top score in the event. He added a fourth-place finish on 1-meter.

Morley started his Penn State career with a win in the 100 backstroke in 47.41. The native of New Zealand was fifth in the 200 back.
