Olympic Gold Medalist Summer McIntosh Out of World Cup Carmel Stop
Olympic champion Summer McIntosh will not be competing at the first stop of the 2025 World Cup in Carmel, Ind.
The Canadian sensation posted on social media that an illness will keep her from this first stop of competition.
“Hi everyone, I was so excited to race at the first top of the World Cup, but disappointed to share I have unexpectedly fallen ill and based on doctor’s advice I will not be racing in Carmel,” Summer McIntosh wrote. “Cheers to lots of fast and fierce racing this weekend of an absolute stacked field of the very best swimmers in the world.”
The World Cup will offer a prize pool of $1.2 million, with $10k bonuses doled out for world-record performances. Additionally, if an athlete completes a Triple Crown, by winning the same event at all three stops, a $10k bonus will be awarded.
McIntosh is focused on being healthy for the Toronto stop.
“The Swimming World Cup coming to Toronto is incredibly special for me—it’s my hometown, and I’m so excited to race there in front of family, friends, and Canadian fans,” Summer McIntosh said in August. “This will be my first time competing in the full World Cup season, and I can’t wait to experience the atmosphere at every stop.
“After the intensity and excitement of the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore, it will be great to get back to racing to close out the year, enjoy the competition, and keep challenging myself against the best swimmers in the world.”
