Northwestern Lands Another for 2023 From Olympic Trials Qualifier Maggie Papanicholas

NEW COMMIT: Northwestern University has received its fifth verbal commitment for the 2023-24 season and beyond from Olympic Trials qualifier Maggie Papanicholas of Arlington Heights, Illinois.

She will join Maggie Belbot, Lexi Greenhawt, May Peterson, and Sydney Smith as a member of the Wildcats’ Class of 2027.

She told Swimming World:

“I’m so grateful and excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Northwestern University!! I chose Northwestern because of the amazing people, beautiful campus, and top tier swim and academic programs. Thank you to everyone who has help me through this process and a HUGE thank you to my family, friends and coaches for their endless support. GO CATS!!”

A breaststroke specialist, Papanicholas trains year-round with Glenbrook Swim Club and placed eighth in the 100m breast at Juniors West this past summer after taking 10th in that event at Wave I of Olympic Trials. She was also the runner-up in both the 100/200 breast at the TYR 18&U Spring Cup – Des Moines back in the spring.

Her best times include:

  • 100 Breast: 1:01.16
  • 200 Breast: 2:12.84
  • 200 IM: 2:06.00

Currently a junior at John Hersey High School, Papanicholas recently earned silver in the 100 breast at the 2021 Illinois State Championships. She is also a two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American and attended the 2020 National Select Camp.
