Northwestern Receives Three Verbals For 2023 From Lexi Greenhawt, May Peterson, Sydney Smith

NEW COMMITS: Northwestern University has received three verbal commitments for the 2023-24 season from Lexi GreenhawtMay Peterson, and Sydney Smith.

All three talented swimmers will join Maggie Belbot as a member of the Wildcats’ Class of 2027.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am beyond grateful and excited to announce that I will be continuing my athletic and academic career at Northwestern University! From the moment I stepped on campus and met the team & coaches I knew this was the perfect place for me I want to give a huge thank you to my family, coaches, teammates, and friends for all of their support in getting me to where I am today. I can’t wait to be a wildcat, B1G things are coming!!!”

A native of Englewood, Colorado, Greenhawt does her club swimming with University of Denver Hilltoppers and placed 10th in the 100m fly this past summer at Austin Sectionals. A junior at Cherry Creek High School, the USA Swimming Scholastic All-American took fourth in the 100 fly at the Colorado 5A State Championships a season ago.

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 23.84
  • 200 free – 1:56.80
  • 100 back – 54.88
  • 100 fly – 54.38
  • 200 IM – 2:06.38

MAY PETERSON

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Northwestern University! Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible! Go ‘Cats!”

Hailing from Cheney, Washington, Peterson swims for Spokane Waves Aquatic Team and raced to 10th in the 100m back at the Speedo Summer West Championships in August. While competing for Cheney High School, the USA Swimming Scholastic All-American most recently earned gold in the 100 back and silver in the 100 fly at the Washington 3A State Championships.

  • 50 free – 23.81
  • 100 free – 51.53
  • 200 free – 1:55.67
  • 100 back – 53.73
  • 200 back – 2:00.53
  • 100 fly – 54.90
  • 200 IM – 2:05.03
  • 400 IM – 4:36.81

SYDNEY SMITH

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I’m extremely grateful and excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Northwestern University!! Thank you so much to my family, coaches, and friends for their support. GO ‘CATS!!”

Smith, who trains with Dads Swim Club, is from Houston, Texas, and was the gold medalist in both the 100m and 200m free at the NCSA Championships this past summer. A junior at The Kincaid School, the USA Swimming Scholastic All-American won the 100 fly and 200 free at the Texas Southwest Prep Conference Championships as a freshman.

  • 100 free – 49.74
  • 200 free – 1:47.33
  • 500 free – 4:51.17
  • 200 IM – 2:00.59
  • 100 fly – 56.01
  • 200 fly – 2:06.17
