Northern Michigan Adds First In-State Verbal From Joanne Arbic for Fall 2022

NEW COMMIT: Northern Michigan University has added their first Class of 2026 verbal commitment from in-stater Joanne Arbic of Pickford, Mich.

She told Swimming World:

“I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Northern Michigan University. Go Wildcats!”

Primarily a sprinter, Arbic most recently won both the 50 free and 100 free at the MHSAA Upper Peninsula Finals last month en route to earning best times in both. In 2020, she was the runner-up in the 200 free at the MTSL Championship meet where she also finished sixth in the 100 free and 100 fly.

She swims for Sault Area High School and Sault Competitive Aquatics.

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 25.42
  • 100 free – 57.22
  • 200 free – 2:03.03
  • 100 fly – 1:03.84

The Wildcats have a talented Class of 2025 that includes Mia Strazny, Jasper BunkerBecca HarnedBecca BurrowsCecilia HagewoodHeidi BillingsEmma Clifford,  Zoe DeKievitElla Houwers, and Faith Sill.

Under head coach Heidi Voigt, the Wildcats won their seventh GLIAC Championship title in school history and their first since 2002 in 2020, and finished second in 2021.
