NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships: California’s Sara Isakovic Captures 100 Fly Crown

AUBURN, Alabama, March 16. IN an incredibly close contest, California's Sara Isakovic gave California its third win in four years in the 100 fly with a 51.49 at the NCAA Division I Women's Championships. The win broke a tie with Stanford for the most 100 fly triumphs ever, moving Cal up to 10. Previous Cal victors were legendary swimmers Mary T. Meagher (1985, 1987), Natalie Coughlin (2001, 02, 03, 04) as well as Golden Bear stalwarts Dana Vollmer (2007) and Amanda Sims (2009, 11).
Auburn's Olivia Scott took second in 51.61, while Tennessee's Kelsey Floyd (51.67) and Jenny Connolly (51.73) placed third and fourth. Auburn's Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace (51.79), Yale' Alex Forrester (51.93), Virginia Tech's Heather Savage (52.16) and Arizona State's Caroline Kuczynski (52.52) also vied for the NCAA title.
California's Cindy Tran topped the B final with a 51.62, while Stanford's Samantha Woodward placed second in 52.07. Alabama's Kristel Vourna (52.31), Stanford's Felicia Lee (52.37), Texas A&M's Caroline McElhany (52.53), UNLV's Katelyne Herrington (52.60), UCLA's Yasi Jahanshahi (52.71) and Michigan's Caitlin Dauw (52.96) also swam in the consolation heat.
California became the first team to crack 200 points with 224 for the lead. Southern California (177), Stanford (171), Auburn (155) and Arizona (141) held second through fifth.
