NCAA Championships: Josh Liendo Throws Down 43 to Take Top Seed in 100 Butterfly

The 2023 NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships continued on Friday with the prelims of the 100 butterfly.

In the first circle-seeded heat, NC State’s Nyls Korstanje led at the halfway point. Florida’s Josh Liendo took a narrow lead at the final turn and hung on to win the race in 43.80. It was a time that would hold up with two heats to go.

In the second circle-seeded heat, Jordan Crooks held a narrow lead at the halfway point as he battled NC State’s Kacper Stokowski until the touch. Crooks got to the wall in 44.52, just ahead of Stokowski (44.66)

In the final heat, Stanford’s Andrei Minakov led at the halfway point. Virginia Tech’s Youssef Ramadan used a late surge to get to the wall first in 44.00. Minakov was next at 44.14.

The NCAA overall top seed went to Liendo at 43.80, ahead of Ramadan (44.00) and Minakov (44.17).

Indiana junior Tomer Frankel took the fourth seed in 44.26, followed by NC State’s Aiden Hayes (44.40), Crooks (44.52), Korstanje (44.56) and Stokowsi (44.65) as the NC State Wolfpack put three in the NCAA final.
