Michael Phelps Jack Conger Matchup Highlights USA Nationals Finals Heat Sheet
Michael Phelps enters tonight’s USA Nationals finals the second seed in the men’s 100-meter fly behind Jack Conger. Conger swam a 51.97 in prelims to secure the top spot at finals, while Phelps clocked a 52.12 in the morning. Last night, Phelps and Conger took first and second in the 200-meter fly. The World Record-holder Phelps blazed a 1:52.94, which is the fastest time in the world this year. Conger took second and dropped over five seconds from his entry time.
Tonight, the two go head-to-head in a heavily anticipated matchup. It’ll be just as interesting to see where the two will fall in the world rankings. At the FINA World Championships in Kazan, Chad le Clos won the 100-meter fly in 50.56. Laszlo Cseh was a close second with a 50.87. American Tom Shields wound up fourth in 51.06.
Caaleb Dressel, Cullen Jones, and Josh Schneider headline the showdown in the men’s 50-meter free. Dressel topped the prelims session in 21.85, while Schneider (22.10) and Jones (22.11) took second and third just 0.01 seconds apart from one another.
Caitlin Leverenz looks to hold onto her top spot in the women’s 400-meter IM. She’s seeded with a 4:41.76 after a controlled swim in prelims. Look for her to drop loads of time for that on her quest for a National Championship.
