Louisville Gets a Good One: Grant Gooding Verbals to the Cardinals for 2023

NEW COMMIT: The University of Louisville has received its first early verbal commitment for the men’s side from Junior National qualifier Grant Gooding of Upper Arlington, Ohio, for the 2023-24 season and beyond.

He told Swimming World:

“Thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Louisville, I want to thank my coaches, family, friends and teammates for this great opportunity, Go Cards”

Gooding trains with Upper Arlington Swim Club and most recently earned four best times at Richmond Futures where his highest finish was a 19th-place showing in the 50m free. He also collected five silver medals at Ohio LCM Seniors this past summer before finaling in four events at Geneva Sectionals.

Currently a junior at Upper Arlington High School, Gooding is already a four-time individual Ohio State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American earned silver in the 100 breast and bronze in the 200 IM as a sophomore while taking sixth and ninth, respectively, in those events during his freshman season.

His best times include:

  • 50 breast – 25.63
  • 100 breast – 54.80
  • 200 breast – 2:04.31
  • 50 free – 20.80
  • 100 free – 46.58

History was made this past season for the Cardinals as the program won their first-ever ACC title, snapping NC State’s six-year streak by two points. Louisville also won the first NCAA relay title in program history in the 200 medley relay, and Nick Albiero became the fifth individual NCAA champion for UofL.

Albiero was recently named ACC Men’s Swimmer of the Year and head coach Arthur Albiero was named ACC Men’s Coach of the Year.

The Cardinals just brought in a large and talented class at the start of the 2021-22 season that includes Gustavo SaldoMurilo SartoriTommy BriedRyan HoganEli Shoyat, Lance GodardWylie KruseJohn BosslerOwen Taylor and Luke Shourds.
