Kyle Chalmers Tops 50 Free Field During Prelims at the 2015 FINA World Junior Championships

Australia’s Kyle Chalmers turned in a sizzling 22.48 during prelims of the men’s 50-meter free during day three of the 2015 FINA World Junior Championships. Chalmers added slightly to his seed time of 22.33.

After posting a new championship meet record in the 50-meter back earlier during prelims Michael Andrew was able to turn around and post a quick 22.52 to grab the second place seed. Andrew also added slightly to his seed time of 22.37.

Brazil’s Pedro Spajari claimed the third place seed with a time of 22.67 from heat seven.

Italy’s Giovanni Izzo turned in a time of 22.78 to grab fourth in prelims from heat nine.

Russia’s Vladislav Kozlov and Brazil’s Felipe Souza turned in similar times, posting qualifying times only .02 seconds apart. Kozlov took the fifth place seed with a time of 22.83 from heat eight, while Souza grabbed sixth from heat seven with a 22.85.

Hungary’s Oszkar Peter Lavotha clocked a time of 22.88 to grab the seventh place seed, while Canada’s Markus Thormeyer posted a time of 22.95 to take eighth.

Russia’s Aleksei Brianskii (22.97), Australia’s Vincent Dai (22.97), Kazakhstan’s Adil Kaskabay (23.10), Great Britain’s Thomas Fannon (23.14), Italy’s Alessandro Bori (23.15), Slovakia’s Tomas Puchly (23.15), Turkey’s Huseyin Emre Sakci (23.18), and Poland’s Pawei Sendyk (23.19) complete the top sixteen qualifiers for tonight’s semi-finals.
