Michael Andrew Dashes to Meet Record in 50 Back at 2015 FINA World Junior Championships

Michael Andrew of the USA dazzled in prelims of the 50-meter back turning in a sizzling time of 25.14 to lead the qualifiers going into tonight’s semi-finals. Andrew’s time is also a new meet record, replacing Grigory Tarasevich’s time of 25.44 from 2013.

Venezuela’s Robinson Molina finished second overall in prelims with a quick time of 25.75, bettering slightly on his seed time of 25.90.

Teammates Mohamed Samy and Youssef Abdalla from Egypt went 3-4 in prelims to situate themselves in the middle of the pool for tonight’s semi-finals. Samy turned in a time of 25.76 just slightly ahead of Abdalla’s 25.83, both from heat seven.

Canada’s Javier Acevedo finished fifth with a time of 25.86, while Spain’s Hugo Gonzalez took the sixth place seed with a time of 25.88.

Greece’s Nikolaos Sofianidis and Hungary’s Bence Szucsik tied for the seventh place seed with a finishing time of 26.00.

Brazil’s Guilherme Basseto (26.03), USA’s Michael Taylor (26.12), Australia’s Clyde Lewis (26.18), Hong Kong’s Lau Shiu Yue (26.25), Ireland’s Conor Ferguson (26.27), Russia’s Roman Larin (26.31), Argentina’s Nicolas Deferrari (26.34) and Australia’s Nicholas Jon Groenewald (26.41) complete the top sixteen qualifiers.
