Kaley McIntyre Sets Division III Record in 200 Freestyle; Takes Down Longstanding Mark

While UIndy’s Jeremias Pock established a Division II record in the 100-yard breaststroke on Friday night, a Division III record was set by New York University’s Kaley McIntyre. Racing at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships, McIntyre posted a time of 1:44.74 in the 200 freestyle to take down the longstanding record of Kendra Stern. The record of Stern had stood at 1:44.82 since 2011, when she won the NCAA championship for Amherst.

The reigning NCAA titlist in the 200 freestyle, McIntyre was dominant for NYU, winning the race by more than five seconds. She is also the Division III record-holder in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle, behind performances of 22.15 and 48.13 in those events.  McIntyre is a senior from Novato, California.

“Kaley turned in an unbelievable performance in the 200 free tonight,” said NYU coach Trevor Miele. “So impressive to witness.”

In her record-breaking swim, McIntyre was out in 24.14 and made the turn at the 100-yard mark in 50.55. She came through the 150 in 1:17.43 and stayed strong through the finish. McIntyre won the 50 freestyle earlier in the meet and will race the 100 freestyle during Saturday’s action.
