Ireland Sending 3 Swimmers and 1 Diver to Rio

Today Swim Ireland and the Olympic Council of Ireland announced some of the nation’s athletes headed to the Olympic Games. Included in that announcement were the three swimmers and one diver who will compete for the nation in Rio.
Fiona Doyle will be the sole woman on the team. She is entered in the 100 breaststroke. At last summer’s World University Games, Doyle took home bronze in 1:07.15, fast enough to qualify.
Nicholas Quinn will race in the 200 breaststroke. At the Eindhoven Swim Cup he posted a 2:11.24 to secure his spot on the team.
Shane Ryan clocked a 53.93 100 backstroke to book his ticket to Rio. The American-Irish dual citizen only earned the ability to represent Ireland last month.
Oliver Dingley will be Ireland’s first diver since 1948. His participation in the 2016 European Championships was also historic, as he was among a trio of divers who were the first in nearly 20 years. In Rio, he’ll compete in the 3m springboard.
Across ten sports, the nation is now sending 50 athletes.
