NEW COMMIT: The University of California, Berkeley, has continued to put together an impressive recruiting class for Fall 2025, with its latest verbal pledge coming from in-state standout Dar Lavrenko of Mountain View, Calif.

He will join Julien Rousseau, Kenneth Barnicle, Caiden Bowers, Norvin Clonts, Ian Platts-Mills and Andrew Shackell as members of the Golden Bears’ Class of 2029.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I am proud to announce that I have achieved a significant milestone. My verbal commitment to UC Berkeley where I will continue swimming as a D1 athlete in one of the best swim programs available. Coach Jose, thank you for all your time, energy and dedication you have given me. Thank you to my parents for always being there and supporting me. Thank you to my friends who have kept me sane even through the roughest of days. And thank you Abby for adding color to my world. Next goal: Olympic Games Go bears”

A sprinter, Lavrenko does his club swimming with  Los Altos Mountain View Aquatics Club. He earned 100% best times at Junior Nationals this past summer where he finished 16th in the 100m free and 20th in the 50m free. He also earned bronze in the 50 free at Novato Sectionals back in March.

His best times include:

Currently a junior at Mountain View High School, Lavrenko placed eighth in the 50 free and 11th in the 100 free at the 2023 CIF State Championships. He finished sixth and second, respectively, in those events at the CIF Central Coast Section Championships.
