Andrew Shackell To Join Twin Sister, Alex, At Cal In 2025

NEW COMMIT: The University of California, Berkeley has picked up its first verbal commitment for the men’s Class of 2025 from Andrew Shackell of Carmel, Indiana.

His twin sister, Alex Shackell – arguably the top recruit in her class – has also verbally committed to the Golden Bears. Their older brother, Aaron Shackell, is currently a freshman on the men’s team at Cal.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I am very excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of California Berkeley to continue my swimming and academic careers. I’d like to thank all the coaches who helped me as well as my parents for supporting me. Go Bears 🐻!”

Shackell trains year-round with Carmel Swim Club and most recently placed 13th in the 200m fly at Junior Nationals this past summer. He had a great showing at Indy Sectionals in March, earning six best times and placing as high as sixth in the 200m free.

His best times include:

  • 100 fly – 49.48
  • 200 fly – 1:50.84
  • 200 free – 1:39.87
  • 100 free – 46.55
  • 50 free – 21.29

Currently a junior at Carmel High School, Shackell placed fourth in the 100 fly and sixth in the 200 free at the Indiana State Championship as a sophomore.

By the time he arrives in Berkeley, Cal will be part of the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Golden Bears have won the last two NCAA titles.
