Cal Picks Up 2025 Verbal From Distance Ace Julien Rousseau

NEW COMMIT: The University of California, Berkeley, has secured a new verbal commitment for Fall 2025 from in-state standout Julien Rousseau of San Diego.

He will join Kenneth Barnicle, Caiden Bowers, Norvin Clonts, Ian Platts-Mills and Andrew Shackell as members of the Golden Bears’ Class of 2029.

He told Swimming World:

“I’m super excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of California, Berkeley! I’d like to thank Coach Durden, Coach Marsh, and the entire Cal staff for this incredible opportunity. Much gratitude also goes out to my family, friends, and coaches for their many years of support. Go Bears!!”
A distance freestyler, Rousseau does his club swimming with Pacific Swim and earned four best times at Junior Nationals this past summer where his highest finish was a 21st-place showing in the 800m free. Last winter, he finished third in the 1000 free and seventh in the mile at Juniors West.

His best times include:

  • 500 free – 4:24.90
  • 1000 free – 9:06.62
  • 1650 free – 15:12.74
  • 400 IM – 3:56.43

Currently a junior at Del Norte High School, Rousseau finished 18th in the 500 free and 19th in the 200 free at the 2023 CIF State Championships. He won both of those events at the CIF San Diego Section DI Championships as a sophomore, and he took fifth in the 500 free at the state meet as a freshman.
