Within a week of Laszlo Kiss stepping down as head coach of the Hungarian Swimming Team due to rape conviction revelations, the Hungarian Swimming Federation has moved on by hiring Andras Hargitay as its newest national team head coach.
Olympic bronze medalist Hargitay, who also owns a trio of world titles, will also be assisted by Csaba Sos and Sandor Wladar on the national team. Hargitay will retain his current full-time position as a veterinarian.
Hargitay had been the top coach for Hungary’s age group programs, and had previously served as the national team head coach from 1984-88.
Hargitay told the Associated Press that the job comes with “incredible responsibility, especially now, in an Olympic year and a month before the European championships.”
