NEW COMMIT: Indiana University has secured their fifth early verbal commitment for their growing Class of 2026 from sprinter Chiok Sze Yeo out of Markham, Ontario, Canada.

She will join the Hoosiers along with Kristina Paegle, Avery Spade, Gracie Olsen and Mya DeWitt at the start of the 2022-23 season.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I’m extremely honoured to announce my verbal commitment to further my academic and swimming career at Indiana University! I chose IU because of the outstanding programs it offers and the amazing team! Big thanks to my family, friends and coaches for the endless support! GO HOOSIERS!!!”

Yeo trains with Scarborough Swim Club and most recently earned bronze in both the 50m free and 100m fly at the Winter Ontario Youth Junior Championships in March after taking fourth in both of those events at the Toronto Grand Prix in January.

In LCM, her best times include:

  • 50m free – 26.63
  • 100m free – 69.26
  • 100m fly – 1:01.82

In SCY, those times convert to:

  • 50 free – 23.43
  • 100 free – 52.68
  • 100 fly – 54.94

She also competed at the FINA World Cup stop in Singapore in August 2019, finishing seventh in the 100m fly. Yeo notched 100% best times at the Ontario Junior International meet in December and collected two gold medals at the Etobicoke Age Group meet in November.

When she arrives on campus, Yeo will add her talents to a training group that’ll include Anna Peplowski, Catherine Minic, Ashley Turak, and Carla Gildersleeve. Under head coach Ray Looze, the Hoosiers finished third overall in the team standings at the 2020 Big Ten Championships.

Welcome! I’ve got a story for you about the history of Indiana University and the swimming program… In the beginning God created Bloomington, Indiana and Indiana University and he said, “this is beautiful and good!” Then God gave us THE GOAT, Head Coach Ray Looze and he looked down upon the program and said this is great. God said, “always follow this man’s instructions and you will achieve greatness both in and out of the pool!” #rayloozegoatcoach, #godblessIU
