NEW COMMIT: U.S. Open qualifier Avery Spade of Tucson, Az. has given her verbal pledge to Indiana University as a member of the Hoosiers’ Class of 2026.

She will arrive in Bloomington along with Gracie Olsen and Mya DeWitt at the start of the 2022-23 season.

She told Swimming World:

“I am BEYOND thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to further my academics and athletics at Indiana University⚪️? I’ve absolutely loved getting to know the athletes and coaching staff during this process. I cannot wait to be a part of this outstanding program. A huge thank you to my parents, coaches, and teammates for helping me achieve this dream of mine. GO HOOSIERS”

Spade does her club swimming with Tucson Ford Dealers Aquatics and was the 100 fly runner-up at the Arizona Senior Open in February after racing two events at the Toyota U.S. Open.

In summer 2019, she registered four top-5 finishes and 100% best times at Arizona LCM Seniors before going on to compete at Junior Nationals.

Her best times include:

  • 100 fly – 55.35
  • 200 fly – 2:07.27
  • 100 breast – 1:04.17

  • 100 back – 57.20
  • 200 back – 2:04.71
  • 200 IM – 2:06.55

Currently a junior at Catalina Foothills High School, Spade is already a four-time individual Arizona State Championship finalist. She finished fourth in the 100 fly and fifth in the 100 breast as a sophomore at the DII meet while taking first and second, respectively, in those events at the DIII meet during her freshman season.

The two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American also raced to 10th place in the 100 fly at the 2019 Arizona Meet of Champions.
