Anna Summers will attend Virginia Tech.

NEW COMMIT: Backstroker and sprint freestyler Anna Summers of Augusta, Ga. has announced her verbal commitment to Virginia Tech beginning in the fall of 2021.

She will join Maddy Grafmiller, Julia NappiAva YandleAlexandra Eastmond and Athena Vanyo in Blacksburg as a member of the Hokies’ class of 2025.

Summers does her club swimming with Aiken-Augusta Swim League and is a Junior National qualifier. She most recently earned bronze in the 200 back at Cary Sectionals after placing 20th in that event at Juniors East. Last summer, she took fifth in both the 100m/200m back at Georgia LCM Seniors before going on to finish 13th in those events at Greensboro Futures.

Her best times include:

  • 50 back – 26.82
  • 100 back – 55.77
  • 200 back – 1:58.59
  • 50 free – 23.73
  • 100 free – 51.89

A rising senior at Aquinas High School, Summers is a six-time Georgia 1-3A State Championship finalist. The two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American placed fifth in both the 50 free and 100 back as a junior while taking first and second, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season.

Summers will add valuable backstroke and freestyle depth to the Hokies’ lineup when she arrives on campus at the start of the 2021-22 season. She would’ve placed in the C-final of the 200 back at the 2020 ACC Championships where Virginia Tech finished eighth overall in the team standings.
