Florent Manaudou Leads Men in 50 Free Prelims at 2015 FINA World Championships

Florent Manaudou of France claimed the top seed in the men’s 50-meter free after prelims with a swift 21.71. Manudou’s time sits only .14 seconds off his world best of 21.57 for 2015.
Nathan Adrian posted a 21.73 for the second place seed, also effectively moving himself up in the world rankings. Previously Adrian was sitting ninth with a 21.97 that he posted at the Santa Clara stop of the Arena Pro Series. His time in prelims, however, bumps him up to third.
Kristian Gkolomeev of Greece rounded out the top three with a 21.87. Gkolomeev’s fastest time this year was a 22.03 that he posted at the Greek Open.
Vladimir Morozov was the only other athlete to post a time under the 22 second mark. Morozov turned in a 21.97 to grab himself fourth for the semi-finals.
Bruno Fratus and Marco Orsi of Italy kept it close in heat 10 finishing within .02 seconds of each other. Fratus won out touching in 22.01 for the fifth-place seed, while Orsi settled for sixth with a 22.03.
Benjamin Proud (22.13) and Krisztian Takacs (22.21) finished seventh and eighth respectively.
Ukraine’s Andrii Govorov (22.23), Japan’s Katsumi Nakamura (22.25), Australia’s Matthew Abood (22.28), Japan’s Shinri Shioura (22.34), Russia’s Andrey Grechin (22.38), China’s Zetao Ning (22.43), USA’s Anthony Ervin (22.44) and Greece’s Odyssefs Meladinis (22.47) also qualified for the semi-finals.
