Emma McKeon Surges to No. 2 in World in 200 Free at 2019 Australian World Swimming Trials Day 3 (RACE VIDEO)
The 2019 Australian World Swimming Trials kicked off its third day of competition with the women’s 200 free, men’s 200 fly and the men’s 800 free for the finals session, as swimmer from Down Under continue to battle for spots on the World’s roster, led by Emma McKeon.
With two nights in the books, Aussie athletes have already proven themselves to be threats in international competition, as they prime the swim community for next month’s World Championships in South Korea.
During the Day 3 prelims, McKeon claimed second-fastest time in the world this year in the 200 free.

Women’s 200 Free
The showdown in the 200 free between Emma McKeon and Ariarne Titmus was one of the most anticipated races of the meet.
It did not disappoint as McKeon turned in the second-fastest swim in the world this year.
McKeon used a fast start before hanging on to win the race in 1:54.55. Titmus was second in 1:55.09. Titmus holds the fastest time in the world this year at 1:54.20, set at the national championships in April.
Both swimmers qualified for the world championships and are posing a serious threat to the United States in the 4×200 free relay after defeating them at Pan Pacs last summer.
Sweden’s Sarah Sjostrom (1:55.39) and American Katie Ledecky (1:55.78) are the third- and fourth-fastest performers in the event this year.
McKeon’s opening split was 26.18 compared with 27.04 for Titmus, who had better splits in the middle two 50s before McKeon had the edge on the final split 29.60-29.74.
Shayna Jack finished third in 1:56.37, followed by Brianna Throssell, who clocked a 1:56.62.
Madison Wilson finished fifth (1:56.85), ahead of Leah Neale (1:57.35), Carla Buchanan (1:58.32) and Mikka Sheridan (2:00.18).
